This seminar gives an overview of media systems around the globe. After establishing an understanding of media systems and their structures as well as of commonly used typologies, the seminar will cover the media systems of various countries in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia more closely. A particular emphasis will lie on comparative research in general and comparing media systems in particular. This introductory seminar aims for students to acquire basic knowledge about and to be able to apply key concepts within (comparative) media systems research.
