This seminar invites students to critically examine how Africa is represented in geography textbooks, media, and classrooms. Drawing on postcolonial and decolonial perspectives, we explore how narratives shape perceptions of the continent and influence teaching practice. Through group discussions, textbook analyses, and creative redesign tasks, students will learn to identify stereotypes, analyze biases, and develop balanced and empowering representations of Africa.
Overall, we will combine critical reflection with practical application to equip future teachers to foster inclusive and globally aware geography education. If possible, pupil engagement activities could be implemented before the end of the course.
