This seminar teaches concepts and definitions of knowledge and science communication and their associated theories and models. It integrates multi- and interdisciplinary perspectives. The focus is on the genesis of the discipline, its basic definitions, theories and paradigms, as well as on a specific consideration of the role of institutionalized science and of scientifically and organizationally generated knowledge. In addition to a basic introduction to the subject area, the communication of scientists, strategic science communication and science PR, science journalism as well as the reception and impact of science communication will be examined. In addition, several cross-cutting topics are presented, including risk communication, health communication, and environmental and climate communication.
Learning Objectives:
· Acquisition of knowledge on key theoretical approaches and empirical findings related to knowledge and science communication.
· Enhancement of analytical and reflective skills through the reading and critical discussion of scientific texts, particularly empirical studies.
· Strengthening of communication skills through the presentation and analysis of selected texts.
