Course Description:
This seminar offers students a unique opportunity to explore the world of international diplomacy through direct participation in the Münster University International Model United Nations (MUIMUN) – a conference that brings together around 200 students from over 40 countries each year.

Throughout the course, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the United Nations system, the structure and procedures of Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, and the core principles of global cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. Students will learn how to research and represent the political positions of two different countries in relation to the conference theme, and they will develop key skills in public speaking, negotiation, resolution writing, and intercultural communication.

A central component of the seminar is active involvement in the MUIMUN conference itself, which takes place over five days in Münster May 29th - June 1st 2025) – the historic city of the Peace of Westphalia. During the event, students will act as delegates in simulated UN committees, debating current global issues according to formal UN rules of procedure.

Course Requirements:

  • Continuous participation in all MUIMUN events (separate registration required via https://mymun.com/conferences/muimun-2025)

  • Submission of two position papers (approx. 1 page each)

  • Final conference report (approx. 4 pages)

  • Enhanced intercultural competence and teamwork skills

Target Group:
Open to students of all disciplines and academic backgrounds – no prior knowledge required. All relevant content will be introduced and developed during the course.
