This course explores the depiction of history in film and television from a public history perspective. It will cover key concepts and challenges involved with putting history on screen, but also specifically focus on examples of historical film and TV depicting the rise of fascism, chattel slavery, the Holocaust, and the Chernobyl disaster. Additionally, this course will discuss the fields of film and television history, particularly production history and screenwriting.
Note: This is a reading and discussion-intensive seminar.
