'Comparing European media systems' provides an insight into the theory and methodology of the research on media systems and conveys information about the concept of media system, the relevant players/actors in this field, the different types of information provided by and the use of public communication media in Europe.

This overview is supplemented by an in-depth analysis of linear and non-linear media services in Austria, Switzerland and Germany (‘ACHD-region’) as well as in selected European countries. In addition, we will examine the consequences of the establishment of media intermediaries and media platforms and discuss how the system of public media should be organized in the future in order to optimally fulfill its function for democracy and the communicative needs of people as citizens.
