If you are a MA BAPS student who is signed up for the module ”II.1.3 Historical and Social Perspectives: The Book” then you are required to participate in this research workshop to fulfill the module requirements. Other required courses in this module are Prof. Müller-Oberhäuser’s lecture "From Script to Print: Media Change, Books and Readers in Pre-Modern England" and for Dr. Ellen Barth’s seminar "The Book in 19th Century America."
In the lecture and the seminar, you will be learning about different phases in book trade, printing and reading history. For the research workshop, we would like to invite you to curate an exhibit on 19th-century British reading and readers. Delving into this history will complement the seminar (period) and the lecture (geographic location), but will offer you the chance to explore new tools and methods. Your main sources will be the Reading Experience Database (RED).
The research workshop is independent study time, but we will check in a few times during the semester, usually before or after the seminar (dates tbd).
