Content: This seminar deals with Global Englishes Language Teaching, a very recent underlying approach to learning and teaching English that takes into consideration the global spread and reality of English. We will explore the spread of English and based on very current literature derive implications for classroom practice. In doing so, we'll question the native speaker, question the existence and adherence to a (standard) norm, look into learner and teacher langauge, explore error correction, look at communication strategies, explore corpus linguistics for its use in the classroom, dive into multilingualism and the multilingual turn, reconsider cultural learning, and so on! While doing so, implications for practice and materials design are part of each session. After completion of this seminar, students will have a very good idea of a very modern approach to rethinking English language education. Details about organisation, assessment and readings will be provided in the first session.

Organisation: This seminar is organised in close cooperation with 4 other German universities and will take place in a hybrid format. While some sessions are fully in person, others will take place via ZOOM. However, students are always welcome to come to class at uni, since all ZOOM-sessions are also offered in a hybrid format in class.
