Groups play an important role in many parts of mathematics, for example as symmetry groups or fundamental groups. In the lecture we will mainly look at infinite (discrete) groups.

We will start with group actions and then focus on Bass-Serre theory and applications.

The lecture can be chosen as a specialization combination in the 1-subject Bachelor, for example with differential forms and manifolds. It can also be used as a broadening module in the Master of Science or as a subject-specific advanced module in the 2-subject Bachelor/Master of Education. You can discuss further possible combinations and uses with me. The content of the lecture can also serve as an introduction to work in the fields of geometry, model theory or topology.

Gruppen spielen in vielen Teilen der Mathematik eine wichtige Rolle, zum Beispiel als Symmetriegruppen oder als Fundamentalgruppen. In der Vorlesung betrachten wir vor allem unendliche (diskrete) Gruppen.

Wir werden mit Gruppenaktionen beginnen und uns dann auf die Bass-Serre-Theorie und Anwendungen konzentrieren.

Die Vorlesung kann im 1-Fach Bachelor als Vertiefungskombination gewählt werden, zum Beispiel mit Differentialformen und Mannigfaltigkeiten. Sie ist ebenfalls als Verbreiterung im Master of Science verwendbar oder als Fachwissenschaftliches Aufbaumodul im 2-Fach Bachelor/Master of Education. Sie können weitere Kombinations- und Verwendungsmöglichkeiten mit mir absprechen. Der Inhalt der Vorlesung kann auch als Heranführung an eine Arbeit in den Bereichen Geometrie, Modelltheorie oder Topologie dienen.
