This reading class is devoted to Early English: Old English, Middle English and Early Modern English. It will cover the historical background of the respective periods as well as linguistic aspects of these earlier forms of English (vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation, morphology and syntax). A Learnweb course for the class will provide a structured reading programme with selected set texts for each session and activities based on these. Class sessions will be held in groups meeting for 45 min. each (16.15-17.00/17.00-17.45) on a fortnightly basis. They will include discussion of questions on the reading material, exercises, and reading as well as linguistic analysis of primary texts from the earlier stages of English.
