In many ways, sustainability concerns have become mainstream. Major actors from the public, private, and research sectors now all declare their commitment to reducing carbon emissions, biodiversity loss, and achieving a sustainability transition. Yet, there are important differences in visions of sustainability, priorities, and proposed solutions. This course examines sustainability transitions from an international perspective and the international politics of sustainability transitions, looking at a wide range of approaches to sustainability transitions ranging from degrowth and sufficiency to circular economy and sustainability governance of global value chains. The course consists of a combination of seminars to discuss set readings, group work to develop a policy brief and inputs from researchers from South America.
