Voice, presence, agency, power – these have been common themes in feminist politics over the centuries and across various cultural contexts. They have also been the subject of feminist literary theory from the 1970s onwards and have shaped the field of queer and feminist narratology. In this course, students will study the literary representation of women’s agency from the 19th century to the present with the help of literary theory on narrative form and with the help of key texts in queer and feminist narratology.
