Literary reading can be many things besides an assignment in university curricula: it can be a model for social interaction, it can bring aesthetic pleasure, it can invite critical thinking and be the space of literary worldmaking. This course will explore current theories which elaborate on these aspects of literary reading. Students will learn to approach literary texts via concepts and ideas that focus on the valence of literary reading as a cultural practice.

This course is exclusively designed for MEd students and will explore examples of American literature ranging from children’s literature, young adult literature, and contemporary bestsellers.
