In this course students are introduced to the basic analytical concepts needed to understand and analyse English grammar and learn to apply them in a variety of exercises, including corpus-based tasks.
The first part of the course provides an overview and introduction, revises the grammar topics of the first year basic course in linguistics, and introduces students to the use of corpora.
The second part deals with grammatical structures and concepts on the levels of the word, phrase, clause and sentence.
The third part not only provides a summary and further exercises but includes a practical perspective where students can apply the knowledge about grammar gained in this course to their own academic writing.
