*) Molecular Protein Evolution SoSe 2023, Andreas Lange, Erich Bornberg-Bauer, Bharat Ravi

This course will provide an overview on state-of-the-art molecular techniques for protein evolution. These will be studied in:

  • Lectures: these will give an overview of molecular protein engineering techniques, the general principles behind those techniques and how they are used.
  • Practical: Generating libraries of protein variants, and enzyme engineering. Example proteins (beta lactamase [known], and de novo proteins [unknown]) will be used to design strategies for protein evolution.
  • Computer exercises: DNA sequence analysis and protein structure predictions using AlphaFold.

The course will mainly be held at Schlossplatz 4 (SP4) in one S1-laboratory on the ground floor. Some of the lectures/exercises will be at the Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity, details will be provided during the course.
