Introduction to English as a Foreign Language II continues to introduce you to basic concepts of English Language Education. This course requires students to have already taken EFL I as most aspects are based on what you will have learned there. While EFL I focused predominantly on (language) learning processes and (language) learning theories, etc., this course concentrates on teaching culture and teaching with (literary, audiovisual and digital) 'texts'.

You will reflect on concepts of culture(s) and their role in the EFL Classroom and discuss notions such as global issues (such as Global Citizenship Education, Human Rights Education and Global Englishes) as well as Inter- and Transcultural Learning. This course also aims at examining the significance of digitalisation for the learning and teaching of a foreign language, introducing you to Multiliteracies Pedagogy and complex competence-oriented tasks, while also addressing the principles of inclusion and differentiation. Discussing different text forms, we will be developing concrete ideas for the EFL Classroom based on these theoretical foundations.

Please note that the course reader (Grimm, N., Meyer, M. & Volkmann, L. (2015). Teaching English. Tübingen: Narr.) is also mandatory for this course.
