This course will explore battles over evolution, desegregation, and homeschooling in the United States during the twentieth century. Each of these battles were waged by a group scholars refer to as white Christian nationalists. This discussion-based seminar is not restricted to the educational side of this movement, but will also look at its origins and implications as a powerful political force. Primary source discussions will look at textbooks and activist material, as well as speeches. Additionally, this course will delve into the intellectual origins of the movement using Sutton’s American Apocalypse as a guide.
