Partial differential equations (PDEs) play an important role in a variety of mathematical disciplines as well as in applications in the sciences, as there are e.g.

theoretical and applied analysis, mathematical physics, geometry, probability theory, continuum mechanics, fluid mechanics, optimization theory, biology, medicine, etc.

Both for pure and applied mathematicians one central goal is to understand the solutions of PDEs and their qualitative behavior.

In this lecture we will further extend techniques learned for linear PDEs, deal with methods for solving nonlinear PDEs, and additionally focus on mathematical modeling with PDEs.
