Sustainability and justice seem to constitute a harmonic relationship. A closer look very soon shows the tensions and cleavages establishing a complex and difficult field significant not only to policy making but also for research. This seminar takes on an interdisciplinary lens and focuses on the challenging inter-connections between inequality, environmental problems, economy and goals of sustainable transformation in the field of mobility.
In the first part of the seminar we clarify the social-scientific concepts of environmental justice and the connections of these concepts with sustainability. Secondly, we elaborate on the field of mobility justice and are going to generate insights and categories which will help us to identify and analyze cases related to mobility justice.
Intended outcomes of the course
- Get to know core readings and concepts (selection) in the field of sustainability and environmental justice
- Understand the field of mobility justice
- Learn about the complex inter-connections between social (in)justice, environmental problems, mobility and questions of (un)sustainability
- Analysis of cases, related to mobility justice
Particpation
For a successful participation in the seminar, students are asked to carefully read and prepare the readings for the course. Self-learn periods and groupwork as well as their documentation on miro (digital whiteboard) are intended. For the Prüfungsleistung (full study performance) you will be asked to write a term paper.
