In this course, students will have the chance to consolidate their theoretical and methodological knowledge from the foundational courses ”Introduction to Literary and Cultural Studies” I and II.

We will combine close readings of two famous Shakespeare plays with theoretical discussions informed by a range of critical approaches such as Feminism, Queer Theory, Marxism, New Historicism, and Postcolonialism, as well as adaptation theory and analytical bibliography. By applying these methods to the plays (and their film adaptations), we will explore how different theoretical approaches as well as literary and social history shape our understanding of texts.
