Körpermodifikationen wie Tätowierung, Schädeldeformation oder Zahnmodifikation stellen ein globales Phänomen dar, welches sich archäologisch nachweisen lässt. Ziel der Übung ist es, einen Überblick hinsichtlich archäologisch evidenter permanenter Körpermodifikationen aus vor- und frühgeschichtlicher Zeit zu bekommen, wobei auch die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den unterschiedlichen Interpretationen dieser Ausdrucksform im Fokus steht. Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme an der Übung sind gute Englischkenntnisse, da ein Großteil der relevanten Literatur in englischer Sprache publiziert ist.
Die Zahl der Teilnehmer*innen ist auf 20 beschränkt.
Body modifications such as tattooing, artificial cranial deformation or tooth modification represent a global phenomenon that can be proven archaeologically. The aim of the tutorial is to get an overview of archaeologically evident permanent body modifications from prehistory and early history, with a focus on a critical examination of the different interpretations of this form of expression. A good knowledge of English is required for participation in the exercise, as a large part of the relevant literature is published in English.
