This class is open to students of all subjects who already have a good knowledge of spoken and written English and who wish to improve their language skills further. Emphasis will be laid on broadening vocabulary (especially in areas such as idioms, collocations, phrasal verbs), brushing up grammar and practising listening comprehension as well as writing essays. Further emphasis is placed on developing the students’ confidence to speak through brainstorming, small group and feedback sessions. Discussion themes usually spanning over two sessions are selected for their topical interest. The course also includes a prescribed book, which forms the basis of a short written essay.
