Introduction to Comic Book Studies WS 2019/20, Corinna Lenhardt

This seminar seeks to provide an introduction to the history of North American comics as well as to the academic discipline of Comic Book Studies, including its main analytic tools and techniques. By encountering a number of different comic-art forms and a variety of modes and genres in the first half of our seminar, we will lay the basis for analyzing subversive comics of non-white minorities in the United States today. More specifically, we will read and interpret contemporary Indigenous comic books in the second half of our class.
