This seminar will take an introductory overview of internet or computer-mediated psychology. The seminar will focus on the psychological processes between the individual and computer technology. We will examine core theories and contemporary questions of internet psychology, such as the affordances of computer-mediated communication affecting interpersonal relationships, social cognition of mediated others and the self. Contemporary questions include how social media platforms affects our self-image, why do we derive pleasure from the lives of mediated others, and the growing importance of the internet in our psychological environment.
