Sometimes it seems we cannot trust our senses. Things seem unreal. Illusions show us that perception is not always clear, and that there may be a difference between reality and our perception of it. Understanding how illusions come about is an important approach towards understanding how perception works. Perhaps, an illusory percept is not always wrong. Maybe there is something useful to it. Illusions illustrate how perception constructs our image of the world, and why. In this seminar we will work with illusions from various fields of perception, discuss possible explanations, and learn about their role in understanding psychological phenomena. To ensure successful participation in the seminar students should be familiar with the content of the lecture ”Allgemeine Psychologie und kognitive Neurowissenschaft I”.
