Judgment and Decision-Making are higher cognitive functions. As such, they enable us to behave in an integrated and planned manner. Every day, we make a tremendous amount of decisions and judgments, ranging from extreme to almost no impact. Which shoes should I wear? Should I get married? Will I invest in this company? Psychology is not the only science concerned with decisions. In fact, many other fields study how humans make decisions. Classical economics, for instance, makes assumptions about the nature of human decision-making of which some have proven to be wrong. This course will deal with central theories, experiments and empirical findings that aim to explain how judgments and decision arise. One key concept in this course is how normative theories, describing how we should make decisions, differ from our knowledge about how humans actually make decisions.
