The seminar will be an overview on theoretical and empirical attention to the presence of gender and ethnicity on the internet and how such demographics affect computer-mediated communication. Topics include:
• Discrimination across online services (dating, job application, buying and selling stuff)
• Online racist and sexist humor
• Racist and sexist discourse and hate groups
• How men, women and ethnic minorities navigate the internet
• Social media platforms approaches to mitigate racism and sexism
• Social networking for women and ethnic minorities (personal and professional)
