The aim of this course is to familiarize students with basic issues of second language acquisition (SLA) and to discuss them in the light of practical application and classroom procedure. The course will include a discussion of the following aspects: 

objectives of ELT 

and syllabus guidelines, 

observable phenomena and theories of SLA, 

inter- and cross-cultural communication,

learner variables and learning strategies, 

language awareness, 

and language testing.

 

Participants will improve on their theoretical understanding of a great variety of variables and mechanisms in second language acquisition and how to creatively apply this knowledge to the practices of teaching English as a foreign language.
