This seminar examines how populist far-right actors use social media and how users receive and engage with this content. Drawing on reception studies and political communication research, the course analyzes key populist features from a global perspective, such as emotional appeals, antagonistic narratives, and processes of identity construction, as well as the forms of user participation they generate. Particular attention is given to discourses on sustainability, climate change, the energy transition, and other environmental issues. By the end of the seminar, students will be able to critically analyze populist far-right communication from a user-centered perspective and reflect on its broader social and democratic implications.
