Former INTF Employee Dies at Age 84

Michael Welte, former employee of the Institute for New Testament Textual Research (INTF), passed away on 29 August 2025 at the age of 84. He began working at the newly founded INTF in 1962, initially as a student assistant, and remained loyal to the institute until his retirement in 2006.

Michael Welte played a decisive role in the development phase of the INTF and was involved in many trips to examine and film Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. His responsibilities included managing the extensive microfilm collection, the archive holdings, the library, and editing the Greek handwritten editions of the New Testament. In addition, he was always ready to step in wherever help was needed.

He played a key role in establishing the Bible Museum, which was founded in 1979. The museum always remained close to his heart. His museum tours have inspired countless groups of all ages and educational backgrounds.

Michael Welte's kindness, his inexhaustible helpfulness, his absolute reliability and trustworthiness made him a popular and valued colleague and friend. We remember him with deep gratitude.
