Philosophy of Religion Today (since 2008)

The long-term research project examines the diverse conceptions of the philosophy of religion in the present on the basis of Großhans' conception of "theological realism". Großhans develops and publishes studies on individual prominent philosophers of religion of the modern age and on problem constellations of modern philosophy of religion with the aim of conceiving a critical philosophy of religion.

    Contemporary Lutheran Hermeneutics (2010-2017)

The project was carried out in cooperation with the Department of Theology of the Lutheran World Federation (Geneva). In anticipation of the Reformation anniversary in 2017, the contributions to hermeneutics, that have emerged from Lutheran theology over the past nearly 500 years, have been used as a basis for exploring how to conceptualize a hermeneutics in the 21st century: a century that is at the cutting edge of scholarly hermeneutics(s) and at the same time appropriate for the diverse forms of communication in the (Lutheran) church. Special consideration has been given to the contributions to hermeneutics made in the various contexts of the Southern Hemisphere in recent decades.

    Dogmatics in Modernity

On the basis of Luther's theology and other prominent Protestant dogmatics, the long-term research project continues to develop Protestant doctrine in confrontation with the current awareness of problems in the sciences and in society on a global horizon.
