About Münster:

With ca. 300,000 inhabitants, Münster is the largest city in the “Münsterland”, a largely agricultural region between the Ruhr Area and the Netherlands. The circa 50,000 students enrolled at the University of Münster, the Academy of Fine Arts, the University of Applied Sciences and other institutions contribute to its open, multicultural, diverse, and creative atmosphere. This is especially obvious in the walkable city center, which offers not only historic structures such as the medieval St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Prinzipalmarkt with the Town Hall, and the Baroque Schloss (Palace), but also a wide variety of museums, theaters, and cinemas as well as many restaurants, bars and performance spaces. With its many parks and the Lake Aa, Münster is also famous for its high quality of life and is well-known as the bicycle capital of Germany. For more information, please click here.

Conference participants who will not take part in the GAPS member’s meeting on Friday afternoon have the possibility of registering for a guided sculptures tour by bike or by foot. If you would like to participate, please register for the event on the online conference registration form. A fee of 8€ (an additional bike rental fee applies for the bike tour) will be payable on site.

About the Skulptur Projekte Münster:

The Skulptur Projekte Münster (Sculpture Projects Münster) is an international exhibition of sculptures in public spaces that is held every ten years after its founding in 1977. With its freely accessible artworks by many renowned artists such as Claes Oldenburg, Nam June Paik, Ilya Kabakov, Jorge Pardo, and Rosemarie Trockel exhibited throughout the city, it has often resulted in lively and sometimes controversial discussions about the role and function of public art. While many artworks leave Münster after the end of the official exhibition period, some have remained in their original location and provide an open-air museum on the history of sculpture in the past five decades. The tour will visit some of the most important sculptures in the city center. More information on the Skulptur Projekte Münster can be found here or here.
