Ammap - Amman Archaeological Project
Welcome to the Amman Archaeological Project
The Amman Archaeological Project (ammap) investigates the history and material culture of the northern Transjordan Plateau—the heartland of the Iron Age Kingdom of Ammon. Its research projects explore the region’s material culture—from statues of kings, gods, and humans to burial practices and the monumental stone towers known as rujm.
The project’s central focus is the renewed excavation on the lower terrace of the Amman Citadel in the middle of the modern capital of Amman.
