Invention disclosure

Your research findings and innovative ideas deserve the best protection possible. Our patent officers are available to provide individual consulting on IP protection to all employees of the University of Münster. They assist you throughout the entire patenting process – from completing the invention disclosure form, coordinating the further steps with PROvendis GmbH, our subsidiary for IP management, to successfully marketing your invention. You can download the forms you need here (Invention Disclosure) or click the document links at the bottom right of this page.

  • Are you a student, scholarship holder or visiting lecturer at UM?

    As such

    • you are not subject to the German Employee Inventions Act (Gesetz über Arbeitnehmererfindungen) as long as you are not employed by the University of Münster.
    • if you participate in an invention, you are not obliged to transfer your inventor's shares to the University of Münster,
    • but you must then bear the proportional costs of patenting yourself.

However, you can transfer your inventor shares to the University of Münster:

    • This will be done under the same conditions as for a service invention,
    • i.e. the University will cover the costs of a patent application to the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and
    • you will receive 30% inventor remuneration (gross exploitation proceeds) if your invention is successfully marketed.
