DAAD scholarships

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is Germany's largest provider of study-abroad scholarships. With its wide range of funding and scholarship programmes, it strengthens international relations in academia by promoting the exchange of students and researchers around the world. The DAAD currently offers the following scholarships:

  • One-year scholarships for study visits abroad for bachelor's, master's  in all subject to all countries around the world

Please note: scholarships for single-semester visits, short-term study visits for thesis work, summer language programmes etc. are only offered through the PROMOS programme and are awarded by the University of Münster as partial scholarships.

The DAAD offers a variety of other scholarships, as well. Using the DAAD scholarship database, you can find suitable scholarships to finance the project you have in mind. All DAAD scholarships are awarded largely on the basis of personal aptitude and academic performance. To improve your prospects of receiving a DAAD scholarship, you should ideally:

  • have good to excellent grades in your university courses
  • demonstrate that your foreign study plans are sound and well-considered
  • present your personal motivation
  • provide examples of your social commitment and volunteer activities.

Through careful preparation and a coherent, academically sound description of your study project, you can, in some cases, offset potential reservations concerning your grades – if they are less than optimal. The quality of your application usually depends on the amount of preparation put into it, and therefore, you should start planning early if you wish to apply for a DAAD scholarship.
