ZIVHPC
ZIVHPC is a cluster that was delivered in the year 2009. It is usuable by all students and emplyees of the WWU. The only prequisite is a registration for the group "u0clstr" that can be performed in the user portal meinZIV.
The parallel computer has been delivered by the Dutch company ClusterVision and consists of 20 compute nodes (2 servers per 1 rack unit, combined 160 cores), and 3 GPFS file servers. One of the three file servers additionally undertakes the cluster management (installation server, batch server etc.). Scientific Linux 5.2, a free Red Hat Enterprise clone, is installed as the operating system and extended by a number of ClusterVision expansions. The configuration in detail:
Compute nodes:
- 32 GB main memory
- 2 quad core AMD Opteron 2352 CPUs, 2.1 GHz
- 150 GB scratch Partition
Login Node ZIVSMP:
- 256 GB main memory
- 4 Quad Core AMD Opteron 8356 CPUs, 2.3 GHz
- 250 GB scratch Verzeichnis
File server:
- 24 GB main memory
- 2 x 80 GB hard drive, RAID 1 via 3ware SATA-II RAID adapter
- 2 quad core AMD Opteron CPUs, 2.1 GHz
- 2 x QLogic 4Gb fibre channel adapter
- 3 TB SAN storage via IBM SVC, file system GPFS
DDR Infiniband serves as fast communication network. Additionally, all computers are connected via Gigabit Ethernet (for GPFS, batch system).
The complete cluster (ZIVSMP + compute nodes) accomplishes 1,3 TFlops (78,8% efficiency) in the High Performance LINPACK-Benchmark.
