New ERASMUS partnership between the IfK and Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway

(10.01.2024) The Department of Communication (IfK) has recently entered into a new partnership with Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet). From the autum semester 2024/25, IfK Master students will have the opportunity to study in the Norwegian capital for a semester as part of the ERASMUS programme.

An ERASMUS semester abroad enables students to expand their knowledge of communication science and make intercultural contacts at the same time. With the start of the coming academic year in autumn 2024, IfK students can now also gain such new experiences in the Norwegian capital Oslo. At the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at OsloMet, academic content is combined with cultural encounters.

OsloMet offers exchange students a first-class English-language seminar programme. The course content is based on the department's research specialisations, which cover a wide range of topics such as media and war, innovative media and individual journalistic commitment.Students can take courses such as "Climate Journalism, Theory and Practice", "Brands, Branding and Marketing: Communication Trends and Strategies" or "Investigative Journalism and Cross Border Cooperation". The Department of Journalism and Media Studies is taught by renowned professors of communication and media studies such as Professor Tine Ustad Figenschou, who focuses on digital journalism and online media, Professor Kristin Skare Orgeret, whose focus is on the social role of media in conflicts, and Professor Oscar Westlund, the editor of Digital Journalism.

In addition to its professional excellence, OsloMet also impresses with its location: Norway's largest city is home to sights such as the Royal Palace and the Opera House, as well as a wide range of museums and other cultural institutions. The rustic atmosphere is complemented by breathtaking natural landscapes such as the Oslofjord or the Nordmarka forests, which border directly on the capital. A little further away, for example, the Jotunheimen National Park with its waterfalls, rivers and lakes as well as some of the highest mountains in Northern Europe can be hiked.

Two students from Münster can come to Oslo each year, and in return two Norwegian students can spend a semester here in Germany. The places are primarily available for Master students. If there are not enough applications, Bachelor students can also take part in the exchange in the autum semester in exceptional cases. In addition to the existing cooperation with the University of Bergen, OsloMet is now the IfK's second partner university in Norway.
