The Honorary Doctorate Ceremony on 20.09.2007 is an event of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of Münster.

The NRW Graduate School are the official organizers of the public lecture in the Halle Münsterland on 21.09.2007.

The NRW Graduate Schools have been initiated in 2001 by the state of Northrhine-Westphalia as a new network of excellence in doctoral eduction. The goals of the NRW Graduate Schools are the limitation of the time to a doctorate degree to about three years, to make the educational environment more international, and the qualification of the students with additional skills for the betterment of future carreer oportunities.
The strong international character of the NRW Graduate Schools is meant to strengthen the global networking in science and technology. This international working environment has now lead to an increased personal perception of international correlations and events. The future responsibility of the new generation of top academics is the main topic of the visit of His Holiness.

The NRW Graduate School project consists of seven programs in Northrhine-Westphalia which have by now attracted far more than 5000 applications since 2001. The proportion of accepted students is below 10 per cent. Approximately 2/3 of the students are from international background from all continents. Especially well represented are Asian countries (India, China).
