Instruction for secure email receipt with Outlook

Preliminary remark

This manual will show you how to configure Outlook so that you are secure against any unauthorized reading of passwords and emails. We assume that you are already checking your university emails via Outlook. Only the checking of emails will be secured. The sending will remain unsecured.

Configuration

First go to the administration of the email accounts:

• Show email accounts:
  

Choose the menu item »show or edit existing email accounts«.

• Configure dialog:
  

Choose your email account (it may be named differently than in this example) and click „change«:

As mentioned above, your data are different from the ones in our example. However, the following information under server-information should be identical: as incoming mail server pop.uni-muenster.de or imap.uni-muenster.de. The outgoing mail server should be mail.uni-muenster.de. Click the button “Further settings«:

Click the ‘view’ tab »Advanced« and activate the window »Server requires a secure connection (SSL) «. At the same time the port number given above that field will change from 110 to 995.
