Research Thrives When It Is Shared: Looking Back on the Postgraduate Research Conference at KCL

Presenting research beyond one's immediate project team is an important part of academic development, helping our fellows refine their ideas, strengthen their communication skills, and build professional networks.

A few weeks ago, our doctoral fellow Ilaria participated in the 7th Postgraduate Research Conference at the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care, King's College London. The conference provided postgraduate researchers with a platform to present their work through posters and oral presentations, exchange ideas with colleagues, and celebrate the breadth and impact of ongoing research across the faculty.

We are proud to see our fellows actively contributing to these scholarly discussions and taking every opportunity to develop as researchers. Congratulations to Ilaria on representing our doctoral network and engaging with the research community in this way.

🚀 We are thrilled to share that TReND took the stage at the 2026 EGRAPA Conference.

The symposium “Movement Variability as a Systemic Biomarker of Resilience and Adaptability in Aging” was co‑chaired by one of our supervisors, Rita Sleimen‑Malkoun. The session featured three of our fellows delivering insightful talks:

Victoria Trifonova explored the potential of force‑control variability as a macroscopic marker of aging.

Sofía Avila Pérez presented the findings of her systematic review on dual‑task gait variability.

Julia Jakubowska highlighted how attention shapes behavioural variability through bimanual coordination tasks.

Supervisors from the TReND network,  Jean‑Jacques Temprado and Claudia Voelcker‑Rehage, also chaired engaging sessions on the future of exergames for older adults, motor‑cognitive interaction and intervention strategies, and the impact of physical activity on brain health and cognitive aging.

A big thank you to the organizers, fellow presenters, and all participants for a stimulating conference. We are excited to keep building on these insights, advancing aging research, and shedding light on movement variability—a core aim of TReND.
