Data models (currently discontinued)
For our research the management of biological data is a pragmatic necessity rather than a genuine interest. Huge amounts of biological data need to be stored and made
accessible to queries to support research areas 1 and 3. Unfortunately, biological data are remotely dispersed, poorly documented, erroneous and fuzzy and conceptually
non-standardised. Therefore, a precise capturing of biochemical objects, events and their relationships is necessary. Our research activities are carried out in close
collaboration with computer-scientists and include the construction of conceptual data models and ontologies with a focus on biochemical pathways.
Human judgement and intuition are often important for data analysis. Therefore, a side project deals with methods for visualisation of huge trees and
substructures, corresponding to certain features as they are often used to analyse phylogenies or taxonomies.
