Development of a pulsed laser evaporation tomographic atomprobe
Atom probe tomography is a chemical analysis method of single atom sensitivity and and outstanding 3D
spatial resolution in the atomic range. In the established method single atoms are evaporated by ultra-short high
voltage pulses. Because of this fundamental mechanism, the method has been restricted yet to conductive
materials, mostly metals. To overcome this disadvantage we try to do the single atom evaporation process by
UV-Laser pulses. For that, a new atom probe systems was installed in the laboratory and was put to operation
end of 2004. Now the laser systems is being attached so that first experiments are expected for 2005.
