PhD Project: Analysis of protein-protein interactions of the transcription factor B-Myb

Abstract of Research Project

The B-Myb protein is a member of the Myb transcription factor family and is present in all proliferating cells. The characteristic function of transcription factors is the binding of specific DNA-sequences and the regulation of gene expression. B-Myb controls the expression of numerous genes that are essential for a normal cell proliferation and differentiation. A dysfunction of the cell growth can lead to genetic damage and the development of tumour cells. It has been shown that B-Myb is implicated in the generation of different cancer types. In these important physiological processes B-Myb does not act on its own but interacts with a large number of other proteins. These so called protein-protein interactions are essential for the most biological functions. To contribute to a better understanding of the function of B-Myb in the cell I want to analyse interaction partners of B-Myb in my PhD thesis.
