PhD Project: Synthesis and characterization of polymetallated azoles

Abstract of Research Project

The field of N-Heterocyclic Carbenes (NHCs) has been emerged as a subject of intensive research over the last few years and a huge number of reports are available due to their pervasive utilities in the modern sciences particularly in organometallic, supramolecular and biological chemistry. Surprisingly, most of the reports are mainly based on the reactions to form the product(s) like ‘A’ (R= alkyl, aryl etc.) starting from the N,N´-alkyl or aryl substituted azoles.

So, our work is mainly aimed at the coordination of the transition metal ions by the azole-N atoms to yield the imidazolium salts first, followed by organometallic bond formation between the carbene carbon atom and metal ions to yield polymetallated azole complexes like ‘B’.
