Sulfur in fossil fuels is a major concern in science and technology. Low sulfur limits in gasoline and diesel require efficient methods of desulfurization of crude oils. Therefore identification of sulfur containing compound classes in crude oils is necessary. Especially sulfur speciation is of a great interest, as various sulfur compound classes show different behaviour concerning processes like desulfurization.
Ligand exchange chromatography (LEC) is used to separate disufides and sulfides from PASHs and PAHs. The efficiancy of the phase is verified with VGO range distillate cuts of crude oil.
