By combining microbial physiology, molecular biology, protein biochemistry and environmental microbiology, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of the metabolism of specific microorganisms, the enzymes involved, and the role of these microorganisms in the environment. One of our main research goals is to unravel novel metabolic pathways of various microorganisms, with a strong focus on anaerobic archaea and bacteria, i.e., microorganisms that thrive without oxygen.
