Why I like group theory:
I like group theory because the definition of a group is very simple, easy to understand and easy to explain, but you can already get to many interesting and elegant proofs just by looking at groups. You don't need some huge theories and constructions in order to see the beauty of mathematics there. And this alone makes the power of logical thinking so tangible to me. I also really enjoy to look at the same object from different perspectives and to try to understand it holistically by considering all the different forms in which it can present itself. Group theory seems to me like a great symbiosis of geometry and algebra. The way we are sometimes able to translate pictures into formulae and vice versa is very captivating to me.Curriculum Vitae:
- 2022 and ongoing: PhD student, Mathematics Münster Graduate School, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
- 2021-2022: Worked as an author and wrote a book about how norms and stereotypes prohibit equality. Find it here.
- 2020-2021: Worked as a software engineer. I was interested in and worked with: Go, Python, Java, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, SQL, Terraform, REST, Containerisation, Bash, Git, Github.
