Training in intercultural competence for students
Join us at the University of Münster and experience the European Campus of Intercultural Perspectives!
Become a member of our student team to investigate aspects of intercultural competence.
What is the summer school all about?
Working and interacting with people from different cultures has become part of our everyday-lives, a consequence of increasing globalisation and migration. Therefore, the skills of intercultural communication have become essential for all people involved, be it in working life abroad or in multicultural teams in one’s home country.
- But how does intercultural communication work?
- What options are there to deal with intercultural misunderstandings?
- How does conflict resolution work?
- How do racism and unconscious bias lead to experiences of discrimination?
- And what role does postcolonial responsibility play in interacting with foreign people?
These questions and others will be addressed in the summer school, which unites theory and practice. Students will not only engage with intercultural communication from an academic perspective, but also expand their own intercultural communication skills through practical elements. Adiditionally, there will be some extra events for participants.
Preparation for the summer school
Participants are expected to complete a research assignment to prepare for the summer school.
Based on your preparations, you will work on a group task as part of the course schedule on-site. With your research and on-site work you can earn two Credits (ECTS) and will receive a certificate after successfully completing the summer school. Please find more details here.
The Summer School will be held in English. It is offered by the Institute of Ethnology and the International Office of the University of Münster, working with Ethnology in School and Adult Education (ESE) e.V.
We cordially invite you to participate in our one-week intensive programme on intercultural perspectives!
