How to configure my e-mail client?
You want to check your university mail account off-campus and use your own e-mail client? Then please take a look at our Getting Started Guide (german).
How to edit my e-mails off-campus?
You can either use our web mail interface perMail or our mail server by following our Getting Started Guide (german). According to the manual, the outgoing mail server is “secmail.uni-muenster.de”.
What is the maximum size of e-mail attachments?
By default, the maximum size of e-mails that can be received via your university account is about 18 MB. For attachments up to 512 MB you can use our standard web mail interface perMail. The addressee then receives a link, following which the attachment can be downloaded. To send extensive files from an external e-mail account to a university account, you can use our service BigMail. How to change my e-mail address?
You cannot change your e-mail address. It is userid@uni-muenster.de. But under Mein ZIV you can create an e-mail alias. For example, you can choose firstname.surname@uni-muenster.de.
What to do when absent / being on leave?
Similar to letter post, we recommend to set up an automatic forwarding to your surrogate via the user portal Mein ZIV so that your important messages can be replied to immediately if necessary. To ensure that, by your return, you have your e-mails in your personal inbox, nonetheless, you should choose the option that a copy of each e-mail is kept on the server. In case you have access to the internet during your absence, you can also check your e-mails via our web mail interface perMail. We do not offer automatic e-mail response, because it could be misused for third party harassment.
Can I keep my university e-mail address permanently?
In order to keep your university e-mail address permanently, you have to join the Alumni Club [de]. The Alumni-Club will confirm your membership and your e-mail address will be reactivated. You will be informed of changes via e-mail.
