The Medical Library supports you in all phases of your doctoral thesis: literature search, procurement and management, writing, citation and publishing. We are also able to answer the question: Do similar scientific studies already exist?

If you have any general questions, the information staff will be happy to assist you.

Literature search and procurement

  • DBIS [de] (Database Information System): all literature databases for medicine are listed here. The most important literature databases for physicians are PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and UpToDate.
  • EZB (Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek / Electronic Journals Library): All medical journals available online can be found here, including information on availability at the University of Münster.
  • Rapidoc: As a member of the Faculty of Medicine, you can use our delivery service free of charge if you need an article published in a journal or an essay published in a book that is not available in Münster.

  • PubMed introduction: PubMed is the most important medical database. You will be introduced to search strategies for locating subject-specific articles and will receive information on how to obtain the relevant literature.

How to find other dissertations

  • All doctoral theses of the Faculty of Medicine since 1990 are listed in the dissertation database of the Medical Library.

References from databases should be imported into a reference management programme such as Citavi. It can be used free of charge at the University of Münster.

How to publish a doctoral thesis

  • The University Publications Office of the ULB accepts all theses and postdoctoral theses of the University of Münster and issues the certificates necessary for the receipt of the doctoral certificate.
  • On request, we publish your dissertation digitally. A printed version can also be ordered via the ULB.
